I don't know why amazon can't make a color kindle. The technology was out there. Remember Nintendo came out with a GAMEBOY COLOR that was not back lit. You had to play the game where there is light. The colors weren't AS vibrant, but it is a start, right?

In my opinion, the Kindle doesn't need a touch screen. its only use would be for turning pages and zooming in or out, which is done perfectly well anyway. We must keep in mind that this is an Amazon Kindle, not an iPad. IPads were designed to be touch screen, but Kindles were designed not to be touch screen. If the Kindle was touch screen without the old-fashioned keyboard, it would be just like an iPad with iBooks installed. Also, if it had downloadable games and all, it would be a tablet, not an eReader, and its graphics would kill any game I know of.

This would be ideal for my wife who @ 72 is not as in control as she was in her youth. The new Tablets should help resolve a lot of issues and allow her to keep doing what she loves the doing best. Read, READ and more READING.

Thanks

I really like using the amazon e reader and enjoy having the choice of english books available to me whilst living in spain and thailand. Many people apparently are looking forward to a new amazon model with a colour or and touch screen. I would like to passionately argue against this development. The whole point about the e ink system used in the e reader is that it is easy to look at the screen without getting eye strain. When i read a book, i want to read for long periods - and i want to use the e reader as much like a book as possible, with the extra bonus of being able to adjust the font size to what my eyes are comfortable with. So I would urger amazon to concentrate on improving the screen resolution and the ink contrast. I still find the resolution and contrast not quite as good as i had hoped for. If amazon can really get a top quality resolution and contrast, then technically they would have produced the best possible ereader. I think the specialisation of that piece of equipment is absolutely right for people who like to read seriously. For web browsing and reading magazines and newspapers, i agree a tablet with colour screen would be the best solution - i personally am only too happy to own both things. So Amazon, please keep the e reader as a single use object, but just keep optimizing the ink and screen quality. Its already very easy to use with the menu lists, so why make it touch screen? Just because apple does it? Thats good for tablets, but the ereader really doesn't need it......And please keep the book prices affordable!!!!!
