We are glad to announce that Digital Defense Group president and founder Steven E. Campisi has been accepted as an ISIO Security Professional Member . Below is his professional viewpoint: What happened to the Multi-Billion Dollar Biometric Industry? We were missing a clear vision on three factors: risk, value proposition, and convenience (RVC). We were unaware of how particularly risk and convenience related to the value proposition, specifically within the government and private sectors. Risk is intangible. It is something we try to mitigate through processes, procedures, and technology deployments. Greater risk translates into heightened security measures and users are forced into accepting the associated inconvenience. Companies that fully understand the RVC factors, and how they relate to one another, stand to overcome the behaviors of people and how they interface with biometric technology, uncovering a powerful value proposition in the process. It is this understanding of RVC that will catapult the Identity and Access Management industry (IAM) into the promised multi-billion dollar category. There is no silver bullet in biometrics and until there is a clear understanding of the user community, we will be unable to create a tangible technology adaptation road map. The Industry leaders that have the Capital to continue research and development into the RVC factors will, by 2011, begin reaping the benefits held within the biometric Industry. Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) should be about intellectual property (IP), knowledge, and knowhow in this industry segment rather than just top line. Author: Steven E.
